| The
mission of the Research Institute for Children is
to perform research that will improve the quality
of children's health, to provide an opportunity for
young scientists and physicians to train in an outstanding
research environment, and educate children in the
life sciences and scientific method. |

The
Institute was established in 1996 and moved into its
new home in The Research and Education Building on
the Children's Hospital Campus in December 2001. |

Research
at the Institute focuses on three major areas: host-pathogen
interactions, with an emphasis on fungal diseases,
renal disease, and diabetes mellitus. There are currently
nine full-time faculty members and we are actively
recruiting additional scientists. The Institute also
houses research of the Pediatrics Department at LSUHSC.
